Help us make health information work in Africa.
Every Pákó article is read by a practising clinician before it is published. We are looking for a few more.
- TurnaroundTwo weeks an article
- CreditYour name on every article you check
- CommitmentNo minimum, stop any time
An hour or two a month.
This is not a job, and there is no fee. It is a small group of clinicians who read a draft before it is published and confirm it is sfae, accurate and useful.
Your name and credentials go on every article you check — "Medically reviewed by".
We send you a draft when one falls in your area.
What a review involves.
Read the draft
About 1,200 words, written for a reader with no medical background. We send it with the brief and the sources the writer used.
Correct what is wrong
Anything inaccurate or overstated, and anything you would want put differently to a patient or the public.
Tell us from experience
Screening ages, drug names and doses, and anything that differs for a Nigerian patient. Our writers check helplines and prices.
Three things.
That you are licensed and in practice, that your name can appear on what you check, and that you tell us about anything that could look like a conflict of interest.
We ask for a draft back within two weeks. If a month is too busy, or a draft sits outside your area, say so and we will pass it on.
Credit, handouts, and early sight of drafts.
Your name on the work
On every article you check, with your credentials, where anyone searching your name will find it.
Patient handouts for your clinic
The article you checked, as a one-page sheet carrying your clinic’s name. Print it for the waiting room, or send it to a patient on WhatsApp.
First read of what is coming
You see drafts in your area before anyone else, and you tell us what we should be writing about next.
Frequently asked questions
How much time does it take?
About 30 to 45 minutes an article, and never more than two a month.
How long do I get?
Two weeks. We will say if something is time-sensitive.
Is it paid?
No. If that ever changes, we will tell you.
What are the patient handouts?
A one-page version of an article, carrying your clinic’s name, to print or send on WhatsApp. Ask for any article we have published.
What appears publicly?
Your name as you give it to us, your credentials, and the short bio you write. Your registration number is never published.
Am I liable for what is published?
No. You are reviewing educational material, not giving clinical advice, and you can ask for your name to come off a piece at any point.
Can I stop?
At any time. Tell us and we will stop sending drafts.
Do I need to be in Nigeria?
For now, yes. Most of what we need checked is specific to practice here.
